NBA Stars Who Give Back

Lamar Odom

Following a successful college basketball career, Lamar Odom joined the NBA as the 4th overall pick in the 1999 draft. In 2011, he was awarded the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award for his performance coming of the bench for the Lakers. During the award ceremony, Odom considered himself blessed despite the string of family deaths that followed him throughout his life. His father was a heroin addict when Odom was born, and his mother died of colon cancer when he was 12 years old. He was raised by his grandmother, who passed away only a few years after he joined the NBA.
