Travel Vaccination FAQ

Voyaging Antarctica

Although Antarctica is not a “popular” vacation destination per say, there are still hundreds of people who travel to the continent each year. Disease is not the primary health concern when traveling to Antarctica, however, the severe weather and low temperatures are incredibly dangerous if not properly prepared for. In spite of this, there are some vaccinations to consider before arctic travel. Most travel to this continent is done via cruise ship, so any disease that is passed person-to-person could affect you on your travels. The risk of flu, measles and mumps is increased with close quarters travel, so it’s important to make sure you’re up-to-date on those vaccinations. Make an appointment with your doctor before you travel to discuss any other possible immunizations you may need.
