Simple Steps to Reduce Men’s Cancer Risk

Practice Safe Sex

Wearing a condom can protect against cancer-causing viruses like the human papillomavirus (HPV) and hepatitis B. According to Cancer Research UK, these sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) can cause liver, mouth and penile cancers. Although usually recommended for women, men ages 9 to 26 can also receive the Gardasil vaccine, which helps prevent HPV and diseases associated with HPV, such as anal cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends the Gardasil vaccine for boys around the age of 11. However, a male can receive this the three-shot series until he turns 22.
