Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIPA)

CIPA is an inherited condition caused by certain genetic mutations. It is characterized by the inability to feel pain and little to no sweating. The inability to feel pain can lead to excessive injury. This can cause further problems since those with CIPA may also heal slowly leading to high fever, chronic bone infections and even joint deformity (Charcot joint).
