Myths and Facts About Popular Health Foods

Myth: “Fat free” or “low fat” foods are healthier than their regular counterparts.

In every aisle of your local grocery store, there is guaranteed to be a “fat-free” or “low-fat” food. If you think these foods are always healthier, think again. Many fat-free foods have little to no difference in calories than their full-fat counterparts. And, more importantly, fat is not always the enemy. Some types of fat are actually good for your heart and necessary in a healthy diet. Dieticians may often recommend steering clear of these low-fat and fat-free foods. Instead they may recommend opting for the less-processed version of your favorite snack.
