Celiac Disease 101
Patients with celiac disease have a very low threshold for even small amounts of gluten, so sometimes it may be easier for the whole family to adopt a gluten-free diet. Because gluten-free foods are often easier to digest, this diet is also popular with patients with digestive conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Cutting gluten from your diet may seem like a difficult and limiting task, but there are actually many foods that are naturally gluten-free!
According to the Celiac Disease Foundation, naturally gluten-free food groups include fruits, vegetables, meat and poultry, fish and seafood, dairy, beans, legumes and nuts. However, gluten may be found in foods and medicines that many people may not be aware of. For a full list of foods that contain gluten, click here . Talk to your doctor before starting any new diet.
