Zemplar Overview
Zemplar is a prescription medication used to treat high levels of the parathyroid hormone (PTH) in those with chronic kidney disease. Zemplar belongs to a group of drugs called vitamin D analogs, which help regulate PTH levels and increase calcium in your body.
This medication comes in a tablet form taken once a day or 3 times a week, with or without food.
This medication is also available in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein (IV) by a healthcare professional.
Common side effects of Zemplar include diarrhea, hypertension, vomiting, and dizziness. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how Zemplar affects you.
