Tequin Overview

Gatifloxacin is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial eye infections. Gatifloxacin belongs to a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones, which help to kill bacterial cells.
This medication comes in solution (liquid) form and is applied topically during waking hours to the affected eye every 2 hours for the first day, then 1 drop 2 to 4 times daily for the next 6 days (total length of treatment is 7 days).
Common side effects include redness and irritation of the eye, dry eye and taste disturbances. Gatifloxacin can also cause blurred vision. It is not recommended to wear contact lenses until eye infection has resolved.
