Tips for Living with Type 2 Diabetes

Take Care of Your Feet

Diabetes can often lead to foot problems. Most often, these problems are caused by nerve damage, or neuropathy. Symptoms of neuropathy include tingling, pain, burning, stinging or weakness in the foot. It can also cause a loss of feeling in the foot. Poor blood flow can also cause problems in your feet. This can make it more difficult for your body to heal from infections. Luckily, you can control some of the factors that lead to poor blood flow, such as smoking. Following your doctor’s advice on keeping your blood pressure and cholesterol under control will also help you prevent poor circulation to your feet. Other foot problems common to diabetes patients include skin changes (dryness), calluses and foot ulcers.
