Staying healthy after treatment

The end of treatment may come as a relief, but it’s common for many cancer survivors to still worry about their cancer returning. In the years that follow treatment, it’s important to have regular follow-up appointments with your doctor. Your doctor will likely discuss side effects with you during these visits, as cancer treatment side effects can last weeks or months after treatment ends. Make sure you discuss any concerns you may have with your doctor. In addition, continue healthy eating and exercise post-treatment based on your doctor’s recommendations. If you find yourself emotional after treatment ends, rest assured you are not alone. Look to family, friends, support groups or online support for strength and comfort. According to Cancer.org, nearly everyone who’s been through cancer feels better if they have some sort of support, as the journey through cancer can be a lonely one. Before, during or after treatment, it’s important to stay strong and not give up. If you aren’t sure where to go for help, Cancer.org has a hotline you can call any time at 1-800-227-2345.
