From anything such as insect bites to poison ivy to food allergies, antihistamine tablets like Benadryl can help relieve symptoms of allergic reactions. Benadryl can also help with short-term sleep difficulty, particularly in individuals who complain of occasional problems falling asleep. Be cautious though; in some people, Benadryl may have the opposite effect. Since it blocks the brain’s dopamine receptors, it can tend to worsen restless leg syndrome in some people.
