Stars with Diabetes

Since her diagnosis, King has helped to raise awareness about diabetes as the spokesperson for the Face of Change Campaign. She often uses her experience as a professional athlete to stay motivated: “In tennis I stay focused on my side of the net … It’s no different when it comes to managing a disease like diabetes … the only person’s performance I can control is mine. Taking care of ourselves is all important, all year-round.” Beyond raising awareness of diabetes, King focuses her efforts on HIV/AIDS and women’s issues, serving on the board of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the National AIDS Fund and the Women’s Sports Foundation.
