Seasons Change — and So Does Your Body
Frostbite is an injury to the body caused by freezing, which can cause a loss of feeling and color in the nose, ears, cheeks, chin, fingers or toes. In severe cases, frostbite can result in amputation. You can prevent frostbite by dressing warmly while outside and keeping clothes dry. If you feel numbness anywhere on your body, go inside immediately. Avoid rubbing or massaging a frostbitten area, which can cause more damage. Instead, soak the affected area in warm water. Because these areas may be numb, be careful not to burn yourself if you warm yourself near a fireplace or stove!
