Celiac disease damages the lining of the small intestine. The damage is caused by a reaction to gluten, found in many wheat and bread products. Symptoms include stomach pain, constipation and diarrhea. Celiac disease patients are more likely to have autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis.
