Myths and Facts About Popular Health Foods
Myth: You can get the health benefits of coffee by drinking any type of coffee, even specialty drinks.
After dozens of studies on the health benefits of coffee, you may be surprised to discover that these benefits may not apply to all types of coffee drinks. While black coffee is credited with lowering the risk of diabetes, heart disease and even Parkinson’s disease, specialty coffees like frappuccinos and even the ever-popular pumpkin spice latte are seldom considered healthy. Why? Specialty coffee drinks are loaded with sugar and empty calories, which can cause you to crash later in the day. Dietitians may recommend getting coffee black, and adding non-fat milk or a natural sweetener if needed.
