Myth Buster: The Truth About Popular Diets

Atkins Diet

The Atkins Diet was created in 1972 and is based on restricting carbohydrates while emphasizing protein and fats. A typical day of eating on the Atkins Diet might be scrambled eggs, sausages, and steamed spinach for breakfast; roast beef on salad greens with bean sprouts and another vegetable for lunch; and for dinner, some sort of baked fish, a vegetable side, and a salad. According to the Mayo Clinic, the Atkins Diet warns that people who drastically cut out carbohydrates may experience headaches, dizziness, weakness, fatigue, and constipation.
