Medications to Modify the Course of MS
Interferon beta-1a is given either as a once-a-week intramuscular (IM) injection (Avonex) or three times a week (Rebif). Common side effects include flu-like symptoms (fatigue, chills, fever, muscle aches and sweating). Most of these symptoms will go away after the first few weeks of treatment.
