Keeping an Eye on Your Eyes

Eat Right Continued

There are a few specific heart-healthy — and eye-healthy — foods that you may want to add to your family’s diet like kale, salmon, oranges and black eyed peas. Leafy greens like kale contain lutein and zeaxanthin, which can prevent macular degeneration and salmon contains omega 3’s, which have been tied to a lower risk of age-related eye problems. Your eyes also need high levels of vitamin C in order to function properly, so citrus fruits like oranges are a great choice. Eating black eyed peas and other foods that contain zinc may help protect your eyes from light damage.
