How to Quit Smoking
You can quit cold turkey, but that’s not your only option. Medication may be the push you need. The most common treatment is nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), which reduces withdrawal by giving the user small amounts of nicotine without many of the other harmful chemicals found in cigarettes. The goal of NRT is to lower how much nicotine the body needs, little by little, until the user is weaned off completely. Other medications, such as Chantix — which is used together with behavior modification and counseling — and e-cigarettes may also help smokers quit. E-cigarettes are battery-powered devices that heat a nicotine solution into a vapor that the user inhales. Talk to your doctor about the quitting option that is right for you.
