While oral sex carries a lower risk of HIV than other forms of intercourse, there is still a risk. To be extra safe, use a condom or dental dam while engaging in oral sex. If a person has oral ulcers, bleeding gums, genital sores, or other sexually transmitted infections, HIV transmission risk becomes higher.
