Osteoarthritis occurs when the protective tissue in a joint begins to wear away. This can cause joint pain and stiffness and can lead to a reduction in mobility. While osteoarthritis can occur in anybody, obese individuals have a higher risk possibly due to the strain on joints from extra weight.
