Halloween Safety

Walking the Walk

Here’s a scary fact: according to Safe Kids Worldwide, kids are twice as likely to be killed by getting hit by a car on Halloween than any other night. Trick-or-treating requires a lot of walking from door to door. Make sure you and your gang of goblins stay on the sidewalk. If there are no sidewalks, stay to the side of the road and remember to walk facing traffic, so the cars are driving toward your front. Go over the proper way to cross the street with your children — stop and look both ways. Even if they can see the cars, make sure the cars can see them; dress them in bright colors and reflective gear and give them flashlights or glow sticks.
