Essential Nutrients for Children
Did you know that the food pyramid you grew up with has changed recently? The Food Guide Pyramid has long been the model for healthy eating in the US, but the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recently switched to a new symbol — a colorful plate called MyPlate. According to Choosemyplate.gov, MyPlate illustrates the five food groups that are the building blocks for a healthy diet using a place setting for a meal. That makes MyPlate a great starting point for what your kids should be eating on a meal-to-meal basis.
