Essential Nutrients for Children
Now that we’ve covered the basics, let’s find out the amounts of nutrients recommended for each age group. For children ages 2 to 3, daily intake is recommended to be between 1,000 and 1,400 calories — depending on growth and activity level. Kids at this age are recommended to eat between 2 and 4 ounces of lean protein, and between 1 and 1.5 cups of fresh fruits and veggies daily. For grains and dairy, 3 to 5 ounces and 2 to 2.5 cups are recommended. These numbers increase with age, and are also slightly different for boys and girls. Speak with your child's pediatrician to better understand what he or she needs to grow healthy and strong.
