Diagnosing Diabetes

Random Plasma Glucose Test (RPG)

This random test measures blood sugar levels without taking into account when the patient last ate. It also cannot diagnose prediabetes. If a patient’s blood sugar level (taken at a random time) is 200 mg/dL or higher and certain risk factors are also present, the patient may be diagnosed with diabetes. This diagnosis would typically then be confirmed using one of the other tests.
