Diagnosed with Diabetes — Now What?
A podiatrist is a doctor who specializes in treating foot problems. Seeing a podiatrist is very important if you have been diagnosed with diabetes because diabetes can affect your feet in several ways.
Those with diabetes can lose feeling in their feet. If this occurs, it is difficult to even know when you have a cut or sore on your foot. Furthermore, diabetes can affect the blood flow to your feet.
As a result, it may take longer than normal for sores and cuts to heal. These issues can lead to complications.
By having your podiatrist check your feet once a year, you are taking steps in the right direction.
