Excessive drinking can take a toll on sleep quality. A crucial stage of sleep known as REM was found to be significantly affected by heavy alcohol consumption. When a person’s total time in REM sleep is decreased, it may lead to excessive tiredness and mental strain despite a full night of sleep.
