Cystic Fibrosis 101
Because CF can cause malnourishment, patients may need up to 50 percent more calories per day than people without the disease. The Mayo Clinic recommends adding antacids, supplemental high-calorie nutrition, special fat-soluble vitamins, extra fiber and extra salt to the diet. A high salt diet can also help with the digestion of fats and protein. Foods high in vitamins A,D,E and K will also help replace the vitamins that the intestines can’t absorb.
