Coping with Overactive Bladder

Managing Bathroom Trips

Scheduling trips to the bathroom may help patients with OAB urinate at the same time every day, as opposed to when they are overwhelmed with the urge to go. To do this, a little training may be necessary. For example, hold in your urge to urinate for 30 minutes before you go. Then gradually increase this hold over time. A technique called “double voiding” may also help to empty the bladder completely. To do this, wait a few minutes and try again after you’ve finished urinating.
