Commonly Ignored Heart Attack Symptoms

Dizziness and Respiratory Issues

If you suddenly feel out of breath with no explanation, your first instinct might be to blame your lungs. However, the culprit could just as well be your heart. Shortness of breath, also known as dyspnea, is a common symptom of heart problems since a damaged cardiovascular system can interfere with the proper circulation of oxygen. According to the results of a study published in Circulation, only about a third of women experienced “classic” heart attack symptoms like chest pain. Instead, shortness of breath and dizziness were some of the most commonly reported symptoms leading up to and during a heart attack. Considering the potential causes of persistent respiratory complications (COPD, asthma, heart disease), this is one symptom not to ignore!
