Common Signs of Multiple Sclerosis

Emotional Changes in MS

Emotional changes are common in people with MS for a variety of reasons. Learning about a diagnosis of a disease that is unpredictable, has fluctuating symptoms, and gets worse over time may make it difficult to remain positive and motivated. In addition to emotional reactions, demyelination and damage to nerve fibers in the brain can also cause emotional issues. Some of these emotional changes can include major depressive episodes, grieving for losses related to MS, generalized stress and anxiety, inappropriate behavior, and mood swings. Talk to your doctor about any and all emotional changes.
