Common Dieting Mistakes
For most people trying to lose weight, an initial weight loss of 10 percent in six months is the recommended goal. To achieve this goal, a reduction of 500 to 1,000 calories per day is needed, which will average a loss of 1 to 2 pounds per week. Losing weight at a faster rate does not result in better long-term results. In fact, dropping weight at a more rapid pace may bring on some serious ailments. One possible consequence of losing weight too quickly is the increased risk of forming gallstones. Another consequence that you may run into with rapid weight loss is the possibility of electrolyte abnormalities.
