Common Dieting Mistakes
A low-calorie diet is likely to result in a loss of only about 2 to 4 pounds a year, and there are potential consequences to this type of diet. Consuming fewer than 800 calories a day for a long period of time may lead to serious heart problems. This “starvation” diet increases the risks of nutrient deficiency and should not be implemented. For example, those who don’t take in enough calcium and vitamin D may see weakening of the bones, which could potentially lead to osteoporosis.
