In 2011, Wanda Sykes, American writer, comedian and actress, revealed to the public that she had been diagnosed with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a form of breast cancer. Sykes chose to undergo a bilateral mastectomy in order to prevent the spread of the cancer.
