Richard Berri, MD

Richard N. Berri, MD is director of Surgical Oncology at St. John Hospital and Medical Center's Van Elslander Cancer Center. Dr. Berri's special interests are surgical oncology, with a specific focus on hepatobiliary and pancreas tumors, (Hepatocellular carcinoma, Cholangiocarcinoma, Gallbladder cancer, primary or metastatic liver tumors), gastric, colorectal, small intestine, peritoneal malignancies, neuroendocrine tumors, adrenal tumors, melanoma, and sarcoma.

Dr. Berri earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan, and his Master's degree, followed by a Doctor of Medicine, from Wayne State University. He completed a residency in General Surgery at St. John Hospital. He then was accepted to a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He completed the fellowship and returned to southeast Michigan to build a leading program in surgical cancer care at St. John Providence Health System.

Dr. Berri emphasizes multidisciplinary care of patients and seeks the best treatment plan for the patient in a collaborative manner. His goals include continuing clinical trials and research, prolonging the length and improving the quality of life of cancer patients. He has been recognized throughout his career for his leadership, attention to clinical care and surgical excellence, his compassion for patients, staff, the hospital as a whole, and the community.
