Barry L. Friedberg, MD

Dr. Barry Friedberg is a Stanford-trained, board-certified anesthesiologist exclusively practicing anesthesia for office-based elective cosmetic surgery since 1992.

Dr. Friedberg’s "Anesthesia in Cosmetic Surgery" is the first anesthesia textbook to define levels of sedation and anesthesia numerically instead of verbally. He received a US Congressional Award for PK's contribution to the safety of wounded soldiers’ care. Dr. Friedberg is also the founder and president of the non-profit Goldilocks Anesthesia Foundation, dedicated to ensuring brain monitoring becomes a standard of care for anesthesia.

In 1992, Dr. Friedberg developed propofol ketamine (PK) intravenous sedation. The addition of BIS/EMG made PK numerically reproducible. BIS/EMG PK (aka Goldilocks anesthesia) is useful for any integument breaching procedures.

Dr. Friedberg was USC Volunteer Assistant Professor of Anesthesia 1998-2008, and UC Irvine Volunteer Associate Professor of Anesthesia 2009-2010. In 1996, he founded the non-profit, international educational Society for Office Anesthesiologists (SOFA). He has authored more than 60 articles and 7 book chapters, and has subsequently been cited in more than 140 articles and over 50 textbooks.
