Cefotetan is a prescription medication used to treat infections of the urinary tract, respiratory tract, skin, female reproductive organs, bones, joints, and stomach. Cefotetan is also used before surgery to prevent infections. Cefotetan belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics. These work to kill bacteria.

This medication comes in an injectable form to be given directly into a vein (IV) or can be injected into the muscle (IM).

Common side effects of cefotetan include nausea and diarrhea.
