Cefaclor Overview
Cefaclor is a prescription medication used to treat certain infections of the ears, throat, lungs, skin, and urinary tract. Cefaclor belongs to a group of drugs called cephalosporin antibiotics. These work by stopping the growth of bacteria.
This medication comes as a capsule, extended-release (long-acting) tablet, and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. The capsules are usually taken three times a day. The liquid is usually taken two to three times a day. The long-acting tablet is usually taken every 12 hours within one hour of eating. Do not chew, divide, or break cefaclor extended-release tablets. Swallow cefaclor extended-release tablets whole.
Common side effects of cefaclor include headache, diarrhea, and nausea.
