Mucinex Fast-Max Severe Congestion and Cough Overview
Mucinex Fast-Max Severe Congestion and Cough is an over the counter medication used to treat symptoms of a cold and the flu, including coughing, chest congestion, sinus pressure, and stuffy nose.
It is a single product containing 3 ingredients: dextromethorphan, guaifenesin, and phenylephrine. Dextromethorphan belongs to a group of drugs called antitussives, which work by blocking cough signals and reducing the urge to cough. Guaifenesin belongs to a group of drugs called expectorants. These works by causing the respiratory tract to release more fluids and soften mucous, which allows phlegm to be expectorated more easily. Phenylephrine belongs to a group of drugs called nasal decongestants, which work by narrowing the blood vessels and reducing the swelling inside your nasal passage.
This medication comes in an oral (by mouth) liquid and caplet form, and is usually taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed, with or without food.
Common side effects of Mucinex Fast-Max Severe Congestion and Cough include dizziness, fast heart rate, and shakiness.
