Mucinex Children's Cough Overview
Mucinex Children's Cough is an over the counter medication used to treat symptoms of a cold or flu in children, including cough and chest congestion.
It is a single product containing 2 ingredients: dextromethorphan and guaifenesin. Dextromethorphan belongs to a group of drugs called antitussives, which work by blocking cough signals and reducing the urge to cough. Guaifenesin belongs to a group of drugs called expectorants. These works by causing the respiratory tract to release more fluids and soften mucous, which allows phlegm to be expectorated more easily.
This medication comes in an oral (by mouth) liquid and mini-granules, and is usually taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed, with or without food.
Common side effects of Mucinex Children's Cough include nervousness and excitement.
