This medication comes in tablet form and one tablet is taken three times a day, one-half hour before meals.

Lomaira is a controlled prescription medication used to enhance weight loss in adults. It is used in combination with exercise and a reduced-calorie diet to achieve weight reduction.
This medication is approved for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or more which is considered obese and a BMI of 27 or more which is considered overweight with at least one condition that is related to weight. These conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.

- insulin and medications used to treat diabetes (A reduction in insulin or oral hypoglycemic medications in patients with diabetes mellitus may be required)
- adrenergic neuron blocking drugs
- alcohol

Lomaira Precautions
Serious side effects have been reported with Lomaira, including the following:
- Primary pulmonary hypertension. This is a condition when there is high blood pressure in the arteries to your lungs. Your doctor may stop treatment with phentermine if you develop this complication. Symptoms include
- shortness of breath during routine activity, such as climbing two flights of stairs
- tiredness
- chest pain
- a racing heartbeat
- pain on the upper right side of the abdomen
- decreased appetite
- Development of Tolerance. Phentermine is a controlled substance. There is a potential for developing tolerance. Tolerance to the anorectic effect usually develops within a few weeks. When tolerance to the phentermine develops, the recommended dose should not be exceeded in an attempt to increase the effect. Instead, phentermine should be discontinued.

Effect on the Ability to Engage in Potentially Hazardous Tasks. Phentermine may impair the ability of the patient to drive or operate heavy machinery. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how phentermine affects you.

Risk of Abuse and Dependence. Phentermine should not be stopped all of a sudden especially if phentermine dose is high. This can lead to serious problems.

- are allergic to Lomaira or to any of its ingredients
- have a history of cardiovascular disease such as coronary artery disease, stroke, arrhythmias, congestive heart failure, and uncontrolled hypertension
- are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors or have taken an monoamine oxidase inhibitor in the past 14 days
- Hyperthyroidism
- Glaucoma
- Agitated states
- History of drug abuse
- Pregnancy
- Nursing
Lomaira Food Interactions
Medications can interact with certain foods. In some cases, this may be harmful and your doctor may advise you to avoid certain foods. In the case of Lomaira, there are no specific foods that you must exclude from your diet when receiving this medication.

- have hyperthyroidism
- have glaucoma
- take monoamine oxidase inhibitors or have taken monoamine oxidase inhibitors in the last 14 days
- have impaired renal function
- are pregnant or plan to become pregnant
- are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Lomaira and Pregnancy
Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
The FDA categorizes medications based on safety for use during pregnancy. Five categories - A, B, C, D, and X, are used to classify the possible risks to an unborn baby when a medication is taken during pregnancy.
Lomaira falls into category X. This medication is contraindicated during pregnancy because weight loss is not recommended during pregnancy and may result in fetal harm.
Lomaira and Lactation
Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
It is not known if Lomaira is excreted in human breast milk. Because of the possibility for adverse reactions in nursing infants from Lomaira, a choice should be made whether to stop nursing or to stop use of this medication. The importance of the drug to the mother should be considered.
Lomaira Usage
Take Lomaira exactly as prescribed.
This medication comes in tablet form and is typically taken three times a day. It is recommended to be taken one-half hour before meals.
Avoid taking this medication late in the evening as it may cause one to have difficulty falling asleep.
This medication is only to be taken for a short period of time (a few weeks).
If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take two doses of Lomaira at the same time.
Lomaira Dosage
Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. The dose your doctor recommends may be based on the following:
- the condition being treated
- other medical conditions you have
- other medications you are taking
- how you respond to this medication
- your weight
- your age
- your kidney function
The recommended dose of Lomaira for weight loss is one 8mg tablet three times a day.
The dose will be individualized for each person.
Lomaira Overdose
If you take too much Lomaira, call your healthcare provider or local Poison Control Center, or seek emergency medical attention right away.
