Despite his recent diagnosis, Hanks described his condition as “controllable” with proper diet and exercise. Hanks uses his time, money and fame outside of acting to promote healthy living through various charities. He has supported multiple HIV/AIDS causes, including the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Hanks also has a supported the Children's Health Fund and the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.
