Mucinex D Overview

Updated:

Mucinex D is an over the counter medication used to treat chest and nasal congestion in adults and children 12 years of age and older.

Mucinex D contains two ingredients: guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine.

Guaifenesin belongs to a group of drugs called expectorants. These work by thinning the mucus in the air passages to make it easier to cough up the mucus and clear the airways. Pseudoephedrine belongs to a group of drugs called nasal decongestants. These work by causing narrowing of the blood vessels in the nasal passages.

This medication comes in tablet form and is taken twice daily with plenty of water.

Common side effects of Mucinex D include dizziness, lightheadedness and nervousness.
